yipes

Today I pulled about a thousand weeds that had taken over the shrubs in our front yard. Then I swept up the walkway, and this scary snake appeared. It looks poisonous, and it was shaking its tail and attacking my broom. But it was small and didn't appear to have any teeth. I looked it up online. It's an eastern milk snake, and is "completely harmless."

I used our Gopher pick up and reach tool to toss it out into the field. This thing has officially become a snake removal tool, after using it so many times to get rid of snakes in our yard, both dead and alive.

I figure we have so many snakes in our yard, because we have so many mice in our yard for them to eat.

What is worse, snakes or mice?

Wow...we don't have snakes where I live, or where I grew up. I've only seen snakes at the zoo or the pet store (except for little green garter snakes when I've been camping in the past).

As far as which is better, mice or snakes...hmmm...it depends on if you're talking about indoors or outdoors. Outdoors, I'd rather run into a mouse than a snake! Indoors, mice cause so much damage that I think I'd rather find a (non-poisonous) snake that could be easily removed! ;-)

mice are worse...unless the snakes are poisonous. Then, go with the mice. We get black snakes with red stripes around their necks (a.k.a. black racers). They're harmless but scare the crap outta ya!

both would make me scream!

they both give me the heebeejeebies!

Sarah, the mice leave little holes all over the yard. The only time I run into them is when they've been run over by the lawnmower and I have to pick up the pieces before Skippy finds them. :P

Saur, I knew I'd get a comment from you on this one, seeing as you like to catch any little creatures that try to live in your house. I can never just run away from these things. I have to check them out first.

AJ, funny, I will only scream if they are in my house and catch me by surprise. Once a mouse came out from under my couch and ran right over my bare foot. (at our last house).

Susie, you make an excellent point. You could be an attorney.

Even non-venomous snakes can give you a scare, especially if you're not expecting to see one.

BTW, do you have poisonous snakes where you live, Jenn?

Have you ever had a mouse die inside a wall in your house? P-U! Couldn't get rid of the smell for about 3 weeks. I've never had a snake in the house, but used to have a lot of them in the yard when we lived in Brazil. As far as which one is worse... it's a toss-up. But the best ones are dead (just not inside your walls).

"Red against yellow: kill a fellow. Red against black: friend to Jack."

Okay, so I got my Nature Badge in Girl Scouts.

I would have freaked out too. That is scary..but it's not what you know it's how fast you can google. :)

I'd vote for snakes over mice.

Oh, I hate both snakes and mice, but I could probably live life easier with the mice? Maybe... probably not.

Snakes and mice don't bother me.
I just hate Jokers, and Riddlers and stuff like that..

actually seeing a snake makes me go grab a baseball bat and pound the earth unmercilessly. about every 7 swings I actually hit the snake...

pss.
I looked that snake up and one of his personality quirks is that he hates brooms....

LOL, I think that snake is cute! My son would have caught it and made it a pet.

It does resemble a coral snake which are very dangerous

Hmmmm, over here I'd prefer the mice to the snake ... most of our snakes are poisonous, especially those that are pretty like that one !!
Hope you are having a great week.
Take care, Meow
