my little robin

About a week ago I was sitting out on my back porch reading, and watching a robin collecting nesting materials out of my yard. She kept taking them into the bushes right next to the deck.

I looked in there later and saw her nest. After another day there was one egg. So now she's in there all the time sitting on it. She doesn't like me looking at her, but I took this picture from a distance. Too bad I don't have one of those paparazzi lenses.

I wonder if a nest that low to the ground is a good idea. Not good if a cat comes along, but we have a lot of hawks that are always stealing from birds' nests. Maybe the hawks won't notice her down there.

my mother in law tells the story that when my brother in law was little and he would get hair cuts, she would throw his curly locks outside. when spring came she would see his curly locks in the birds nests in their trees.

we have lots of cardinals in our yard. i love to watch them...they are so beautiful. but it's just not fair that the male is the pretty one!

There's something really special about having a birds nest nearby istn't there? Birds are pretty amazing. Enjoy your Robin and I hope she is safe and sound!

When I was growing up there was always a wren family living on our carport. My daddy parked his truck on the carport and sometimes my brother and I would climb in the back of the truch and stand on the tool box to get a glimps inside the nest. I always felt really sad when I'd see a dead baby bird on the carport though because he got too brave too soon or just got pushed out!

Enjoy your bird watching!
