some camp memories

When I was a teen I worked at a camp in the summers. I worked in the kitchen for a while, and then I was a counselor.

I'm on the left here with my 80's hair, next to my friend Susanna, who was my friend for many years, and now I have completely lost track of her.

This guy who's holding a turkey had a lot of outdoor survival skills. After seeing firsthand his ability to capture his own food, I can see he wouldn't have a problem living in the forest.

One night he came to our cabin holding this turkey. He had seen a flock of turkeys running by, and took off after them, chased them in the dark through the woods, and finally caught this one with his bare hands. He was all scraped up with a bloody nose. After I took this picture he let the turkey go.

(the point of catching a turkey that night, I don't know... maybe he was raised by wolves... he saw them running and had to chase them).

Little know fact: TURKEYS CAN FLY*. As proven by my kids pit bull, Charger.

* Not very well, but when they have to...

weren't YOU cute! And aren't you glad you eat turkeys? I have no problems with eating anything that annoys me... alligators, snakes... but not my mother-in-law. I draw the line at cannibalism.

Sounds like the guy who caught the Turkey was trying to impress the girls. Guys do that you know. :D

Mr. Althouse, now that you mention it, we used to have turkeys in our backyard every morning when we lived in western Mass. They would be up in the treetops and we'd see them flying.

Seeker, yeah, he was a crazy kid.

Susie, I was a few years older than that guy, which is a big difference when you're a teen, so I never thought anything about him being cute or not. Looking back at these photos I think the same thing, he's a really nice looking guy. I loved those jeans. They had deep pockets with pleats on the front. No, I don't have them, but they would probably still fit. I was pretty fun, I liked pre-teens best.

Michelle, were you a big Leif Garrett fan?

Saur, If I had to kill my own food I would be a vegetarian. I could kill a fish, but nothing else. Do you have the same "TMI" mother-in-law that you wrote about?

Bryan, you know, that explains it! He had a talent that no other guy could rival!

Hey, speaking of insurance, I saw this comment over at Susie's:

"If it makes you feel any better, my husband was this evening given a choice to reduce his speeding ticket to 2 parking tickets, of course he agreed, sounds good, huh, until they informed him the parking tickets are $150 each... $300 total!!! I have been so mad about that tonight."

and I was mentioning that you got a cruddy deal to someone I know who works for the police dept. and he tells me that actually that's a heck of a good deal because parking tickets are non-moving violations and they don't show up on your record, and that way they don't raise your insurance premiums.

Now you can breathe a sigh of relief. ;-)

We're glad about the insurance aspect of it, but I had a speeding ticket reduced to a parking ticket once and it came to only $65. This county we live in has mismanaged their budget so badly, they are squeezing as much money as they can get out of people.
